ISSN identifies a serial publication
An ISSN identifies a journal title. It is assigned by the relevant ISSN authority and should appear accurately on the journal website and in article metadata.
DOI identifies a digital object
A DOI gives an article a persistent identifier when it is registered with a DOI registration agency. The DOI link should resolve to the article landing page, even if files move.
ORCID identifies a researcher
An ORCID iD helps distinguish authors with similar names. Collect it with the author’s consent and display it accurately in article metadata.
Crossref connects scholarly metadata
Crossref is a DOI registration agency used by many publishers. Deposits require membership or a sponsoring arrangement, accurate metadata and ongoing link maintenance. An OJS integration can support the workflow, but configuration alone does not register a DOI.
